GENERAL ASSEMBLY INFO

The Occupy Venice General Assembly meets

Monday/Thursday

7-9pm at Bohemian Exchange

1358 Abbot Kinney Boulevard  Venice, CA 90291

All are welcome at our General Assemblies.

Open discussion starts at 8:10 – 9pm

The General Assembly has three focus points:

1. Group introductions & updates on past, present, and future events; 2. Announcements: news and brief discussions on topics relevant to the Occupy Movement; 3. Proposals: working groups and/or individual “propositions” re: ideas/projects the group needs to vote on (ie: people’s mic).

Occupy Venice organizes events and gathers community support for group actions that involve the Occupy movement by way of proposals.

After covering the basics, if there is no guest speaker for the evening, there will be Open Discussion. At this point, open group conversations, introductions, discussions, and working group meetings take place.

*We are currently not permanently “Occupying ” an outdoor space in Venice.*

Please find below the basic structure for the GA and definitions of “Announcements” and “Proposals”:

1. Introductions – 15 minutes (Name, brief statement of what you are working on: 60-second limit)
2. Announcements – 15 minutes (Announcements can be anything – unlike proposals, they are not decisions to be voted on by the Assembly).
3. Proposals - 30 minutes (A proposal is an idea set before the General Assembly which, if implemented, will affect everyone in the movement. Proposals are ideas that will represent the group and need the official endorsement of the Occupy movement).
4. Conclusion of General Assembly
5. Guest Speaker -15-20 minutes
6. Open Discussion – 9pm

Introductions work best with a small group and we are making adjustments as we grow.
